National Safety Month 2024

Every June, the National Safety Council celebrates National Safety Month. This initiative aims to highlight ways that we can create a safer workplace environment. Throughout the month, the messaging is focused on different aspects of safety, including Safety Engagement, Roadway Safety, Risk Reduction, and Slips, Trips, and Falls. This National Safety Month, we would like to highlight some of the safety initiatives and achievements that we have worked towards at PSC.

At PSC Industries, safety is always our highest priority. We consistently emphasize to our employees the importance of working safely and accident free. Our commitment to working safely and accident free is at the forefront of everything we do. PSC has taken bold new stances on HSE over the past two years.  Safety training is more engaging, utilizing vibrant photos and site commentary to help add value and energy to the program.

PSC values employee engagement with safety at every level. Our safety proposal program encourages employees on the floor to bring forward ideas to enhance and improve safety in our plants. Engagement at the floor level was at an all-time high in 2023, yielding more safety proposals than any single year in the past five. Proposals varied in complexity, including suggesting additional guarding, recommending more ergonomic methods to load and unload forklift trucks, recognizing necessary maintenance concerns, and enhancing our Emergency Action Plan. These proposals have been extremely beneficial in improving hazard and risk reduction, communication, and comfort throughout the plants. They provide us with a unique perspective on potential safety issues and give employees an opportunity to voice concerns and share ideas.

This past year, PSC has reached new heights with safety. We have focused our accident prevention efforts on addressing leading indicators of accidents. Due to these efforts, we have maintained two months accident free across all locations and our leading indicator success rates are at 80% or better at every plant.

Our individual plants have achieved many safety accomplishments that we are extremely proud of. Many of our locations have reached a year or longer without any injuries. Our plant in Auburndale, FL exemplifies our commitment to safety as they approach 10 years injury free. Last August, our plant in Ft. Smith, AR was recognized by the Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing for being the recipient of an Accumulative Years Safety Award.
