Sealing, Insulating, And Quieting The World

Employee Spotlight- December 2022

Ken is a Bizcom employee and this month is his 34th anniversary with PSC!

He started as a Junior Programmer and is now Senior Systems Analyst / Lead Developer.

Before PSC, he worked as a band director and substitute teacher for a few Kentucky schools. He also worked as a contractor writing marching band drills for high schools.

Comparing PSC to the other companies Ken has worked for, he said PSC is more connected as a group, which he enjoys.

A project he distinctly remembers working on was the UNIX conversion in 1997. The IT department worked very long hours converting the old IRIS System to SCO UNIX. This conversion was critical to our computer system.  It brought our outdated system (1982 technology) to current technology, could be more easily modified going forward, and vastly improved our system’s speed. All of this took place on the “back end” so most employees didn’t see a physical change, but the upload speed was noticeable. Previously, posting an invoice journal to our server would take around 2 hours. After the conversion, it took 5 minutes. The head of IT at the time said they converted around 4 million lines of code. Ken said this was a stressful project, but with good management, organization, and teamwork, they completed it.

Outside of work, Ken enjoys attending Drum Corps International and Drum and Bugle Corps competitions in the summer. He also enjoys Royal Caribbean cruises.
